The life of Nick Vujicic is one that throws a huge challenge to everyone. No one has any excuse to fail in life. If Nick could make it, then certainly anyone could succeed too.
Nicholas James "Nick" Vujicic was born on 4 December 1982 in Melbourne, Australia
to the family of Dushka and Boris Vujicic with a medical disorder called Phocomelia, a rare disorder characterised by the absence of legs and arms. At first, his mother refused to see him or hold him when he was born, but she and her husband tried to accept it and tried to understand God’s plan for their son. As a child, he struggled mentally and emotionally as well as physically, but eventually came to terms with his disability. He became one of the first physically disabled students integrated into a mainstream school. However, his lack of limbs made him a target for school bullies, and he fell into a severe depression. At age 8, he contemplated suicide and even tried to drown himself in his bathtub at age 10 but his love for his parents prevented him. He later stated that God had a plan for his life and he could not bring himself to drown because of this.
Despite the worries from his parents, he improved and showed that he can be like a normal child. A key turning point in his life came when his mother showed him a newspaper article about a man dealing with a severe disability. Vujicic realized he was not alone in his struggles and began to embrace his lack of limbs. After this, Nick realized his accomplishments could inspire others and became grateful for his life. Nick gradually figured out how to live a full life without limbs, adapting many of the daily skills limbed people accomplish without thinking. At age 17, he started to give motivational talks and later founded a non-profit organisation, Life Without Limbs.
Today, Nick has not only overcome all the overwhelming disabilities but has also gone on to accomplish incredible success. He is an evangelist, a renown motivational speaker and a best selling author with several books. He is married to Kanae Miyahara and they have 2 kids.
Some of his quotes include the following -
- I am gonna try again and again, because the moment I give up, is the moment I fail.
- I never met a bitter person who was thankful. Or a thankful person who was bitter.
- It's a lie to think you're not good enough. It's a lie to think you're not worth anything.
- As long as I try, there's always a chance of getting up. It's not the end until you give up.
